Dobsons Choice - Will Dobson of Hill Farm Orchards in Hampshire lost most of his crop to frost, and now is holding a P-Y-O weekend as the supermarkets won't accept the rest.
Apple growers who were left reeling after an arctic frost decimated their crop are faced with a double whammy because supermarkets will not stock their healthy produce which has unusual markings.
The apples grown at Hill Farm Orchard in Swanmore, Hants, have 'frost eye', a scorching mark which resembles a ring around them caused when temperatures plummeted to -4C in April.
Although their Gala and Cox apples are the right size and taste identical to the usual crop, they are being turned away by supermarkets because of their appearance.
As a result, they have decided to keep hold of them and instead organise a pick your own weekend so consumers can get their apples direct from the orchard.
