Blast from the past - 56 year old box of the very first Scalextric finally handed over to inventors daughters.

The dying wish of Scalextric inventor Freddie Francis has been granted - after his daughters were gifted an original mint set that has been in storage for the past 50 years.

Freddie and his widow Diane boxed up the original set shortly before he died in 1998 and Diana has waited till now before handing the valuable heirloom over.

The previously unopened set has been preserved in a wooden box at the Francis family home until now.

The historic set contains 1950's Ferrari and Maserati style racing car's that would have been driven by Fangio and Stirling Moss and even includes oil to keep the cars running and silicone for 'skid patches'.

Although the set cost £5 in 1957, it's worth well over £1500 today.
