A British Railways poster promoting Penzance
A wonderful collection of vintage British travel posters celebrating the golden age of the seaside getaway have emerged for sale for £15,000.
The posters were produced by Great Western Railway and British Railways between the 1930s to the 1960s to encourage Brits to holiday on the Cornish coast.
One striking Art Deco poster issued by Great Western Railway shows a lady in an orange swimsuit at Newquay with surfers in the background.
It describes the popular holiday destination as 'Cornwall's first Atlantic resort'.
The collection of about 30 posters has been put together by a private collector over the past two decades who is now selling them with auction house David Lay FRICS, of Penzance, Cornwall.
