Broken bears and deteriorating dolls from all over the world are being brought back to life by a UK team of dedicated doctors and nurses at one of the last remaining toy hospitals.

The team at Alice's Bear Shop, a teddy bear and doll hospital in Lyme Regis, Dorset, perform all kinds of 'surgery' from simple restringing and re-stuffing to head re-attachments and complete skin grafts.

Rikey Austin, 49, opened the hospital in January 2000 but also ran a shop and only repaired one or two toys a month.

Now she has a four-month waiting list for patients and has had to close the shop to focus on the hospital side of the business.
