Photo albums containing hundreds of very early images of China taken by a British merchant have been discovered in the home of his late daughter 100 years later.

The black and white snaps give a fascinating insight into the republic of China and a secretive world largely unknown to westerners at the time.

The Devereux family moved to Shanghai in about 1909 and there are dozens of snaps of them enjoying their new life in the Far East.
The pictures are to be sold by Penzance Auction Rooms.
