A woman who bought fresh oysters from a fishmongers was shell-shocked when she put one in her mouth and realised there was a pearl inside.
Esmee Nicholls, 77, and husband Roger were having the luxury shellfish for lunch as a treat when she bit into the pea-sized jewell and spat it out.
She couldn't believe it when she realised the foreign object was a pearl. The odds of finding a pearl naturally in an oyster shell are said to be 12,000-1.
