A Victoria Cross awarded to a British private who bayoneted dozens of sword-wielding warriors despite being badly wounded and under intense fire is tipped to sell for £100,000.

Private John Smith had been cut in the head by a sword, suffered a bayonet wound to the side and a contusion in the shoulder when he charged through a blockaded gate at the Relief of Lucknow in 1857.
His VC has now emerged for sale at London auctioneers Morton and Eden.
