The first ever statue of literary heroine Jane Austen takes shape in the studio of Hampshire artist Adam Roud - nearly 200 years after her death.
The half size macquette shows the English novelist clutching a book to her heart and in a flowing coat as she strides through the town square of old Basingstoke.
Adam is now working on a life size version of the macquette that will be cast in bronze and unveiled in the Hampshire town this summer on the 200th anniversary of her death on 18th July 1817.
Only one portrait of Austen, painted by her sister Cassandra, exist's as she achieved little fame during her lifetime.
The life size bronze will create a long overdue monument to one of Britains greatest novelists.
