A rusty old motorbike which has spent the last 50 years languishing in bits has sold for a whopping £91,000.

The rare Vincent Black Prince bike has not been ridden since being taken off the road in 1967 for a restoration project its owner never carried out.

The 1955 bike was dismantled and stripped back before being left in a garage in Yorkshire and forgotten about.

But experts were left stunned when, almost 50 years on, it sold for almost four times its estimate as a bidding war broke out.

It was snapped up by a private British collector who was born in 1955, the same year the motorbike was made.

The Bonhams sale set a new world record for a Vincent Black Prince at auction, going for substantially more than the cost of a fully-restored example.

The previous record was held by a mint condition Vincent Black Prince sold by Bonhams in 2012 for £81,000.
