A magnificent collection of more than 1,000 signatures and letters from iconic historical figures including the Duke of Wellington, Picasso and Sir Winston Churchill have emerged for auction.

The collection, which spans 300 years, was amassed by the late animal rights campaigner Jon Evans who meticulously framed or put the signatures in albums.

Other famous figures in his collection include Charles Dickens, Sir Edmund Hilary, Mahatma Gandhi, Neil Armstrong, Lord Kitchener, Rudyard Kipling and Margaret Thatcher.
The extensive array of documents is now expected to fetch £30,000 at Campbells Auctioneers tomorrow (Tues).
