Fascinating never before seen photos of the Arab Revolt have revealed Lawrence of Arabia actually had help from a plucky band of British troops as well as the Arab tribesmen.
A new book reveals the legendary campaign, that did much to shape the modern map of the Middle East, used cutting edge weapons like Rolls Royce armoured car's and British crewed aircraft to attack the Turkish enemy alongside the native arab army.
The photos feature in military historian James Stejskal's new book Masters of Mayhem which sheds new light on T.E Lawrence's achievements fighting alongside Arab guerrilla forces in the Middle East during the First World War.
They had been tucked away in the private photo albums of the descendants of soldiers who fought alongside Lawrence during the campaign.
One historically important photo shows Lawrence and his driver sitting in a Rolls Royce in Marjeh Square in Damascus after it was captured in October 1918.
Another documents the dramatic moment a water tower and windmill pump are blown up in the desert.
