Photo album documents the birth of the RMS Queen Mary - Britain's glamorous transatlantic flagship from the Golden Age of steam.

The unique album of photographs were presented to Sir John Stewart, Provost of Glasgow in 1937, and detail the historic construction, launch and fitting out of the famous ship.

Built by John Brown's on the Clyde the historic ship sailed on her maiden transatlantic voyage on 27 May 1936 and captured the Blue Riband in August of that year.

The ship became a byword for luxury and glamour on the prestigious route from Southampton to New York, remaining in service until 1967, when she was retired to become a floating hotel in Long Beach, California.
