Sir Robin completing his epic voyage in 1969.
Sailing legend Sir Robin Knox-Johnston has fired a broadside at the 'bureaucrats' who refused to list his record-breaking yacht on a register for nationally important vessels - because it is 7ins too short.
The decision has put the future of the Suhaili in jeopardy as the 78-year-old is now seriously considering taking her to America to be cared for when he is no longer able to look after her.
This year marks the 50th anniversary of the iconic 1968 Golden Globe Race which saw the British adventurer become the first person to single-handedly sail non-stop around the world.
Sir Robin set off from Falmouth, Cornwall, on Suhaili on June 14, 1968 and returned to great fanfare on April 22, 1969 after his epic 312 day voyage.
