A British craftsman has spent 12 years building a stunning 60ft yacht from scratch after selling his business and home to finance the project.

Mike Ludgrove, 63, has spent £1.3million on the majestic Helena using Douglas Fir timber imported from Canada, teak from a Victorian cotton mill in India and lead from Exeter Cathedral.

He has devoted tens of thousands of hours to Helena which he has worked on full time since its inception, with his wife Elaine taking care of their health food business until it was sold five years ago to fund the project.

Mike also sold their home in London to pay for Helena.
