A one-off classic era Mercedes which was hidden from the Nazis then smuggled out of the Soviet Union sold for more than £5 million.
The 1939 Mercedes-Benz 540 K Special Roadster - which retains its original engine and number plate - went for $6.6million (£5.3million) at auction in Arizona, USA.
The 17.5 feet long two-seater luxury open-top car with a 5.4litre engine was painstakingly restored in 2012 by its previous American owner who has a collection of Mercedes supercars.
It is the latest known example of the 540 K and may have been the last ever made before the outbreak of the Second World War.
