A remarkable collection of vintage pencils has emerged for sale for £130,000.

The collection, which boasts 454 lots, features elaborate gold and silver examples dating from the 19th and early 20th century.

They depict famous landmarks, sporting equipment, animals, bottles of champagne and love tokens, with one even doubling as a fan.
In a bygone age, women would take pencils with them on nights out so they could jot down the names of potential suitors on their dancing cards.
