The heroics of an all-action British officer during a daring trench raid can be revealed after his gallantry medals sold for over £13,000.<br />
<br />
Captain William Algie led from the front shooting eight of the enemy with his revolver, then hurled bombs to keep their reinforcements at bay.<br />
<br />
He subsequently blew up a German ammunition dump, took prisoners, tended to wounded soldiers and withdrew his men under heavy fire.
