A role call at Colditz
Spot the dummy (forth left) - One image is of a dummy they would hold up to trick the German guards into believing the escaper was still with them during parade head counts.
A remarkable archive of photos which provide a glimpse inside the infamous Colditz Castle has come to light.

The photos show the ingenuity of the Allied POWs who devised ever-bolder ways to escape from the German stronghold during World War Two.

The photos were taken by the official Colditz photographer Johannes Lange, who was employed by the German Army to take pictures of failed Allied escape attempts. They were then distributed to other POW camps to alert the guards to the methods the inmates were using in their bids for freedom.
The archive is being sold by a private collector with auctioneer Warwick & Warwick, with an estimate of £1,750.
