An album cover John Lennon drew on and gifted to a session musician has emerged for sale 45 years later for £11,000. ($15,000)

The Beatle did a self-portrait and sketches of a sheep chasing a dog on the front of the signed Walls and Bridges album.

He presented it to guitarist Ed Mottau, who played the instrument on that album and Rock 'n' Roll, during a 1976 studio session.

Lennon suggested Mottau pass the cover on to his children, writing the inscription: "To Christine and Edward, with love from your Dad's pal, John Lennon, '76'."
