A prestigious gold medal awarded to Admiral Lord Nelson's adored naval protege has been sold by his family for £120,000.
Captain Sir William Hoste was just 12 years old when he became Nelson's 'Captain's Servant' on the HMS Agamemnon in 1793.
He earned the British naval hero's admiration over the next five years for his conduct at sea, notably during the Battle of the Nile.
