A gigantic beefsteak fungus dubbed the 'Halloween mushroom' has been hailed by conservationists as a mascot of biodiversity.<br />
<br />
The striking 11in wide specimen was found growing on one of the only remaining oaks in an area of Cornish woodland.<br />
<br />
The ancient forest which once stood there was largely supplanted by conifers to produce timber after the Second World War.
