Controversial monarch Edward VIII expressed huge doubts about being King a full 17 years before he was crowned, a newly discovered letter has revealed.<br />

The future monarch, who went on to abdicate the throne after 11 months as King, suffered a major loss of self-confidence about his future during a Royal tour of Canada as Prince of Wales.<br />

He disclosed his inner-most thoughts in a letter to his mistress Freda Dudley Ward in 1919.
