A powerboat that mimics a pond skater insect has become the first in the world to feature shock-absorbing suspension.

Just like the common water bug, the futuristic boat boasts four 'legs' that float on the water and work independently of one another to soften the ride over the waves.

The 24ft boat uses cutting edge technology developed for rally cars racing across harsh desert terrains to improve comfort by reducing slamming.

The result is blistering speeds of up to 50 knots (57mph) even in the roughest of conditions.
The state-of-the art boat, called 4Play, is the brainchild of Australian engineer Chris Heyring whose company Nauti-Craft is using the unique technology build boats accessing wind farms in the North Sea.
