The 1939 Vincent - HRD 998cc Series - A Rapid.

Quater of a million paid for £10 Vincent rescued from a skip.

A super-rare classic motorbike once bought for £10 and saved from the skip twice by its loving owner has sold for an astonishing £276,000.

Motorbike fan Harry Lloyd first prevented the 1939 Vincent Rapide HRD from being scrapped in 1959 when he heard it was destined for the breaker's yard and bought it for £10.

He did it again 20 years later when the council lock-up it was being stored in was emptied and the contents scrapped.

After a painstaking seven-year restoration it is back to its former glory and sold yesterday at Bonhams for £275,900.
