A vase, also owned by the family of Major Jack Tulloch sold for £33,000 at the same auction as the bowl.

A battered bowl that was until recently the favourite sleeping place for a pet cat has sold for 108,000 pounds.

The 12inch wide bowl has chips, cracks and staples in from where it was once repaired after being broken in two.

Its owners kept the Chinese piece on a chest of drawers in their hallway and it was used as a bizarre bed for their moggy.
Auctioneers gave it a 200 pounds estimate but were stunned when it went under the hammer for 90,000 pounds, or 108,000 pounds including fees.
