A huge tyre from a downed wartime bomber has been exposed on south coast beach Fairlight, near Hastings, East Sussex after the recent winter storms.

The black rubber tyre was buried in the sand 60 yards from the shore after a Wellington bomber it was attached to crash-landed there 74 years ago.

The aircraft broke up on landing in the sea, although the main fuselage was later recovered. Incredibly, all six members of the crew survived the crash.
The recent strong winds and high tides are believed to have swept much of the sand away, leaving the tyre exposed at low tide.
