Pre-production watercolour showing the burning of Atlanta by William Cameron Menzies.
Frankly my dear, it was all carefully planned...

Original sketches used to plan some of the most iconic scenes of timeless classic Gone With The Wind have emerged for sale for a whopping £70,000.

The watercolour paintings imagine now-famous moments from the 1939 blockbuster starring screen siren Vivien Leigh as petulant southern belle Scarlett O'Hara and Clark Gable as her lover Rhett Butler.

The watercolours belong to former Universal Studios worker-turned-collector Jim Tumblin, who is selling off part of his enormous archive of Gone With The Wind memorabilia in a million-dollar auction.

Among the 150 lots going under the hammer in the Heritage Auctions sale is a dress worn by Vivien Leigh as Scarlett which is expected to fetch £100,000 - slightly more than the £15 Mr Tumblin paid for it.
