David Stopps, the longtime promoter of the Friars Aylesbury music club, launched a crowdfunding campaign to raise £100,000 to commission a statue of Bowie to be made.<br />

The return of the Thin White Duke...The statue will also include a lifesize Ziggy Stardust attached to the suited Bowie of a later era.<br />

The world's first statue of David Bowie is taking shape in sculpter Andrew Sinclair's Devon studio.<br />

Ever since the music legend's death in January 2016 there has been a clamour for a fitting tribute of Bowie to be made.<br />
<br />
While his birthplace of Brixton, south London, has been cited as the most likely location for one it is actually Aylesbury in Buckinghamshire that will lay claim to having the very first statue of him.<br />
<br />
The market town was where Bowie played an experimental gig in 1971 to see if had the confidence to perform live and then a year later where his alter-ego of Ziggy Stardust was born.<br />
<br />
One half of the statue has been completed by artist Andrew Sinclair. It depicts a handsome Bowie in his 'Blue Suit' period in the 1990s.
